• 1 out of every 4 females are sexually assaulted by the age of 21.
• 1 out of every 7 males are sexually assaulted by the age of 18
• Every minute in the US, there are 1.3 forcible rapes of adult women.
• 78% of rapes involve a person the survivor knew.  On a college campus it rises to 84%.
• 75% of acquaintance rape cases involve alcohol.
• As many as 84% of all rapes are not reported.
• Women ages 16-24 are three times more likely to be raped than other women.
• Only 2% of all reported sexual assaults are false accusations.  This is no higher than the percentage of false reports for any other crimes.
• These statistics of the US Justice Department, 1991 can be very shocking and scary.  However, they are a reality. Sexual assault is an issue that affects both women and men of all ages.
